Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 2023, signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the observance of Ninoy Aquino Day will be moved from August 21 to Friday, August 23, 2024:

"WHEREAS, Ninoy Aquino Day is an annual special non-working holiday that falls on August 21, the date of the assassination of former Senator Benigno S. Aquino, Jr. in 1983;"

The proclamation further states that the move is "to provide a longer weekend for Filipinos to commemorate the life and legacy of Senator Aquino."
